I accidentally curbed my boyfriend’s wheel

when I told him about it he didn’t speak to me for the rest of the night, I offered to pay to replace the rim, but he didn’t respond. His car had one previous owner and the rims aren’t in prestige condition,( not an excuse) one rim has some scratches and the others are peeling a little bit. I’m not sure if he would even want to replace this one but I feel terrible, should I buy a brand new one, or a used one from eBay and surprise him with it, or just let it be as is and let him handle it?
