Can't play - EA app wont launch the game

So as the title says, are any other PC players having issues launching BF2 through steam?
I press play on steam, EA app says preparing game for 1 second and BF2 launches usually, but now its stuck on preparing game and then it says "The app timed out" after 2-3 minutes.
I've been playing for months like this and never had this problem. Any help/advice? Thanks
