New job: 14TB of unprocessed b-roll footage

I’ve started a new job and received a Synology NAS chock full of best intentions.

There are folders named with the date and roughly the event, but the files are almost entirely MXFs and CRMs, so I can’t even quickly preview them. Each event folder is roughly 100GB, with 50-100 clips.

And while my computer is speedy, and my SSDs are locked and loaded, doing any work directly on the NAS feels like a recipe for disaster. (Maybe I’m wrong about that.)

The good news is that from what I can tell, the footage is at least 75% usable… assuming I can one day make sense of it all.

I would really appreciate any advice from the in-house pros, or others who have stumbled into similar File Piles™.
