Iam [19M] and my girlfriend [19F] is terrified of pregnancy, but having biological children is my biggest dream. Can a relationship survive this fundamental incompatibility?

I’m [19 M] writing this because my chest hurts, my mind is completely spinning, and I honestly don't know what to do. I’m currently sitting in my room trying to process a realization that feels like it’s crashing my entire world down. I love my girlfriend [19 F] deeply. We’ve been together for about a year and a half, and she is the only person I want to build a future and a family with. I don't want anyone else.

But we hit a massive, devastating wall recently, and it’s about biological children and pregnancy.

**My Dream:**

Ever since I can remember, having a biological child and building a family has been my core dream for life. It’s not just a casual "maybe one day" thought—it is a non-negotiable requirement for my lifelong happiness and fulfillment. I know deep down in my soul that if I live my whole life without having a child, I will always feel unfulfilled, empty, and incomplete. I even tried bargaining with myself in my head today—thinking, okay, instead of my dream of having two kids, I can reduce it to just one baby. Just one. I am willing to cut my dream in half just to keep her.

**Her Fear:**

On the other side my girlfriend has a profound, paralyzing, and intense fear of pregnancy. To her, it isn't just a 10-month calendar timeline that she can just "get through." It is a fundamental boundary regarding her body, her physical health, and her mental well-being. She is genuinely terrified of the entire process, the medical intensity, and the toll it takes. When I try to look at it logically from my side, I think "it's only 10 months," but I know that’s unfair because I’m not the one who has to carry that physical and mental burden.

The reality is setting in, and it is brutal. I love her so much, but I am terrified that we are completely incompatible on the single biggest decision two people can ever make.

If I pressure her or stay hoping she will change her mind or "grow out of the fear" as she matures, I’m being selfish and putting an unfair clock on her boundaries. She might end up forcing herself through a pregnancy she hates and deeply resent me for it. But if I give up my dream of having a child just to stay with her, I know I will carry a heavy anchor of resentment and live the rest of my life feeling unfulfilled.

Neither of us is wrong. My dream of having a family is valid. Her fear and her boundary over her own body are valid. But it feels like our two blueprints for a happy life cannot coexist in the same future.

I haven't bre***up with her, and we are still together, but this is eating me alive.

I don't know what to do 🙂 I love her More than anything ❤️‍🩹
