Men were 4 times more likely to commit suicide than women in 2024, and to my knowledge this has been an ongoing trend for many years. In 2024 we lost 38,977 men to suicide, in addition to 9,847 women. What kinds of things lead men to make this decision? Have you dealt with suicidal ideation before? I've been dealing with suicidal thoughts for years, and at no point did I ever think it had anything to do with the fact that I was a man, so what gives? Maybe the way we teach boys to cope with their problems is wrong. Sometimes I know when I want help, or someone to talk to I don't even know how to start the conversation. I feel like such a burden asking for someone's attention just so I can cry and have them tell me everything is gonna be alright and it's honestly embarrassing. And what problems do men face that make you feel like the only solution is to end your life? The idea of a man sitting alone and ruminating in pain makes me so sad. A happy man is wonderful to see. There's nothing more I love than to see men smiling, and being caring for others and themselves. We don't even teach boys how to pretend to be happy, it's just stone faced nothing all the time. If we make every man feel like he has no place in the world then he might take us up on that offer and leave. Sometimes I feel like therapy is for better people than me. I feel like I'm expected to be sad and guilty and blame myself, but the truth is, I need someone who will just tell me how to do better. I'm not a people pleaser, I'm not scared of every little thing except for talking about myself. So where do I go for help? What if you were socialized to believe that if there is a problem in front of you it is your job to completely remove it from your path. Having to relearn everything just to then learn how to heal because that's the only way therapy works can be really difficult. Telling them they're nothing but dangerous, creepy, and useless doesn't create a very good environment for them to want to come to anybody for help. Please don't let us lose anymore men to suicide. If you or someone needs help reach out to a friend, a redditor, literally hit me up. We always want to solve our problems with violence, but sometimes we just need to let people live and deal with our own lives together.
