brand new player tips??

hey guys ive just got DBD and plan to play with my friends they have been teaching me the basics of gens and looping and some killer mechanics but i whant to learn as much as i can rather its small advance on what characters to get what to avoid to setting tips for console players any tips are appreciated thanks guys :)
