Going to get sued multiple times, 100% Veterans Disability
My family knows my primary account so this is a throwaway.
I owe about 25k combined from credit cards, HVAC financing, and a burst pipe.
I took a loan from my mother for 15k a few years ago to clear some other debt and to buy an older Ford Focus for 4k with the intent of doordashing. Well the focus was horrible and after putting another 3k into it, it was a lost cause. Sold it for $2500. After my wife lost her income Credit cards were how we lived, it paid the bills, bought groceries and everything. We knew we were in trouble but it was a kick the can down the road thing.
I recently got my 100% Veterans Disability rating which is about $4200 a month, I recognize how much that is and how privileged I am to get it. Unfortunately after mortgage, cars, and life we end up with nothing, usually less than nothing with an overdraft at the end of the month.
I've always grown to pay back everything, cars, CCs and everything but we just can't. We had a burst pipe (flooded basement), the Focus problems, unable to doordash (account got suspended, thats another story), the massive CC payments. Its all added up to about 25k. 8k has already been sold to Midland, 5k to another collector. I've tried to work with them but they all want 200-400 a month which just isn't possible.
I cant declare bankruptcy because the loan from my mother. I still owe her 6k and I've made all my payments to her. I'd rather not pay my mortgage than not pay her back. But the bankruptcy lawyer I talked to said they would go after my mom for the money I've paid her back over the last 2 years. I cant let that happen.
Im a stay at home dad, my wife works but doesnt make a lot and her name isn't on any of the debt. Putting the kids in daycare would be 2000 a month. If I worked nights which I've tried the best I can do is 10-11 dollars an hour (Im very rural).
Im probably getting sued, multiple times. But as I understand they cannot garnish my Veterans pay, so what happens in court? I dont know what to do. We have zero savings and one disaster away from ruin.
Thank you for any insight.
