How to rebuild when over the age of 50

I'm getting wiped out by this economy. 2.5 years ago my job was offshored, yet again, 4th time in my career, and it hasn't gone like each time before. Each time before was a massive setback, more than a setback really. The impact compounds over years, but jobs did return, and we were able to rebuild, but this time is different. It's been 2.5 years, hundreds of applications, and the toll this time is taking everything and then some. We're financing food now. I've wiped out savings, our kids' college funds, racked up insurmountable debt on credit cards almost exclusively used for food and essentials, and we've wiped down retirement funds, which go very fast when taxes and penalties cut them nearly in half.

I feel completely empty now. Just staring at job boards, trying to muster up the energy to tailor another resume, to fill out the same damn fields on yet another application, knowing it's just going to hit whatever application tracking filters and pop another auto rejection email in my inbox... I just have no emotional energy, no optimism left anymore.

I saw similar play out with older co-workers in the past. It didn't go well for them. And now I'm there, and even though I thought I was preparing myself and family for this, I was so wrong. Everything cost so much more than I could have ever have projected.

So, logically, mathematically, financially, I think I have to concede that I'm just no longer in the acceptable age bracket for my profession anymore, to land another job. And contract and gig work... pretty much the same reason our jobs were offshored, they aren't economically feasible. I don't need to make $5, $20 here and there, I need thousands to keep the kids in college and the mortgage and car payments and food on the table. Gig work, temp work, delivery work just isn't cutting it.

If I had money left, if I'd known at the start that it was going to stretch out this long with no leads, I probably would have pivoted into trying to start my own business, but now... I just don't know what to do. Every move I can think of wipes us out faster.

Anyone else struggling with this? Any advice?
