15 minute phone call tomorrow, can I ask about flexibility in pay?
I am trying to break into a new field and I found a job that I have plenty of experience for, the pay was not listed when I applied, but when the hiring manager reached out to schedule a phone call, they let me know it was $14 an hour. This is less than I am making now, and I know I may have to take a bit of a pay cut to get started in a new field, but I was wondering if I can ask during the call if they are flexible on the pay rate. I saw a lot of articles saying to wait until you have been offered the job, but that seems like it could be wasting my time and theirs when I could just ask up front. Is this an okay thing to do? And if so, how should I go about it? On Glassdoor, the median pay for this type of job was $15-19, depending on the institution and experience.
