Nobody Understands What Interpretation Means Anymore

SpoilerDigital Discussion

I’m here to address both sides in this argument because both sides are genuinely getting annoying with it.

Now before the pro trans Jax team crucifies me and down votes me to hell, I want to mention that I know Jax being trans is canon. I genuinely couldn’t care less, my issue with y’all is completely different.

For the post I will be using He/Him for Jax for two reasons. One I will get to later, and two Gooseworxs said anything is fine for Jax.

Anti Trans Jax Team:
Just stop, Jax would be Trans, it’s canon. There’s no point in arguing about something that genuinely has no impact on the story. All of Jax’s issues and story arc don’t revolve around him being Trans. It revolves around his emotional abuse and toxic masculine figures in his life. (If only Kinger could’ve gotten to him) That’s what made him push his mom, that’s what made him push everyone away, that’s what made him what he was in the story. You could completely remove Jax being Trans from canon and it wouldn’t change a single thing. So stop acting like it matters, it’s a superficial detail that doesn’t mean anything.

Pro Trans Jax Team:
I’m gonna start off by explaining my first reason for still using he/him for Jax. Firstly Jax and Lee (Leeroy) are two different characters. Lee is what Jax would’ve turned out like if he accepted people into his life. Lee is trans, that is also confirmed. Goose’s drawing of Jax as a girl is an alternate timeline, again where she accepts people into her life. Our Jax on the other hand arguably identified as a man all the way to abstraction. You could argue that final sequence he accepts he’s trans. I would argue though it’s him accepting others into his life when it’s too late. He still hasn’t fully accepted himself as trans, and if any of y’all were to go into the circus calling him a she, you’d probably just revert all his character development and it’d be like Ribbit all over again. If he were to somehow unabstract he’d eventually find himself and come out to the others, but that’d take time.

There’s also an argument to be made that none of the other circus members know the truth. We have more of an omnipotent view, we see and hear things they don’t, like “Isn’t she lovely”. Pomni, the only one to see Jax’s mind and only one to be able to tell the others, wouldn’t have picked up on the foreshadowing through the show and in that sequence. The only thing she really saw that could’ve pointed to it was the Bow, but without the context it really means nothing. Just like us, Pomni and Ribbit don’t know what Jax told his mom (it’s implied to us based on context, but they don’t have that). In their universe placing the bow on Jax’s head was a complete coincidence. Obviously as an outside observer we know in a story there are no coincidences, and we had context they didn’t. My point being they just wouldn’t have known and still think Jax is a dude.

That segment was a bit much but there’s a lot more to explain in this compared to stop complaining.

Now onto my title. This is my main issue with y’all’s arguments, especially when it was still up for interpretation and not canon. Everyone has a different life path that shapes their views and how they interpret things. To some it was very obvious Jax was trans, to others it was equally obvious Jax was something completely different. You can’t use the “It was obviously showing Jax was Trans” argument because that’s just not how interpreting things work. It’s the same thing with Lee, to some it’s obvious she was boymoding, to others, she looked like an Alt boy. I’m not saying Jax isn’t/wouldn’t be trans, I’m just saying the argument that it was obvious doesn’t work in this case.

We also have to realize the online community talking about this only make up a small percentage of the overall watchers of the show. There are people out there who don’t even know what Goose has released outside of the show, meaning all their information about it comes from their own interpretation from watching the show. To them their interpretation would be completely canon.

Overall we’re making Jax being trans the only thing about his character, and letting it overshadow deeper/different discussions about the show. It’s the same thing with any lgbt character, both sides focus too much on the lgbt aspect, and too little on the actual character.

That’s all I really have to say/remember about my argument in this matter. Please be respectful in the comments, if you disagree we can have a friendly debate about it. I will not be responding to anyone who’s rude.
