Need help choosing a MacBook for school and family use

Hi everyone,
I’m a high school student going into my sophomore year and I’m looking to buy a MacBook with a budget of around $1,000.
My main uses will be:

Schoolwork and research
Google Docs, Microsoft Office, and lots of browser tabs
Video calls and online classes
Light photo/video editing
Some business and finance work with my dad
General everyday use
I’d like something that will last at least 4–6 years. I’m open to new, used, or refurbished options.
What MacBook would you recommend in 2026 for my situation? Should I get a MacBook Air or Pro? Is 16GB RAM worth it? Any specific models or deals I should look for?
