Mac Mini vs MBP for creative work?
*This post is music production specific, but the discussion actually applies to everyone who uses MM/MBP for creative work*
Basically I have Mac Mini (MM) and MBP M4 Pro. I initially bought MM because I knew that I am a fixed location music producer about 95% of a time and I didn't want to splurge on MBP. I am not gonna go into details but I eventually also bought myself MBP and now I am in front of a tricky dilemma.
I can see how comfortable and flexible is MBP, I can easily unplug it from my desk and go work on music in other room or on sofa or in rare occasions I could also take it outside and work on music wherever without disrupting my flow. Initially I thought I would have MM as my main machine at home and MBP as a portable machine and I would sync projects and samples between the two devices but now I am starting to think this is completely unnecessary when I could just run with MBP as my main machine and sell MM altogether.
But here's where my main concern comes in. I bought MM because I knew it would be a more reliable machine since it has less components (no screen, battery and keyboard) and better ventilation for more intensive sessions. What scares me about MBP is that it has more points of failure (for example aforementioned components) and I would prefer to have a reliable machine for 5-7 years (I am fine changing out battery at some point though).
I wanted to ask you about your real-world experience with running MBP as main creative work machine, e.g. how prone is it to issues and failure and whether my concerns are overblown. I would run my MBP mostly in a fixed setup with closed lid, plugged adapter and external display.
