Genuine question: What's with the attractiveness gap in some Jordanian couples?

I've noticed something in Jordan that genuinely confuses me.

When I'm walking around malls, cafes, or just out in public, I see a lot of couples where the guy is honestly way less attractive than the girl. Not just slightly sometimes the dude looks average at best, and the girl is absolutely stunning. I've even noticed cases where the guy is noticeably shorter than her.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, I'm just curious because I seem to notice it way more here than in other places.

What am I missing? Is it confidence? Personality? Money? Family background? Social status? Or am I just overestimating how much women care about looks?
