verdict on hair colors?

Ok Mid-Atlantic peeps. What's the verdict on fancy hair colors? yeah or no? I've had blue/purple hair for years and need to redo it soon, but I don't want to do it if they're just gonna turn around a week or two later and say natural colors only.
