I was thinking about an OW or MR-style hero shooter set in the BL universe, with a huge roster of playable Vault Hunters, fan-favorite characters, villains, and maybe even some brand-new original heroes made specifically for the game. Hero shooters are admittedly everywhere these days, but I’d still be completely on board with this one just because it would give us a chance to see so many beloved characters come back again.

Imagine jumping into matches as Zer0, Krieg, Maya, Gaige, Athena, Zane, Amara, FL4K, and plenty of others, each with abilities inspired by their action skills from the main games. The Borderlands universe is already packed with unique personalities, crazy powers, and different combat styles, which honestly makes it feel like a perfect fit for a hero shooter.

The gameplay could lean heavily into Borderlands’ signature chaos and humor. Instead of traditional loadouts, heroes could find random weapon drops during matches, letting players temporarily upgrade their arsenal with legendary weapons from manufacturers like Maliwan, Jakobs, Torgue, Hyperion, and Vladof. Ultimate abilities could be huge spectacle moments too, like Krieg entering a full Psycho Rampage, FL4K summoning multiple pets at once, or Lilith phasing across the battlefield while setting everything on fire.

Maps could take players across iconic locations from the series, including Pandora’s deserts, Promethea’s futuristic cities, Eden-6’s swamps, Elpis, and maybe even some entirely new planets. Game modes could range from traditional objective-based battles to more Borderlands-inspired ideas, such as fighting over a newly discovered Vault, escorting a valuable convoy, or collecting Eridium while hostile creatures constantly interfere.

More than anything though, it would feel like a celebration of the franchise. Seeing characters from every Borderlands game interacting with each other, exchanging dialogue, and fighting alongside or against one another would be enough reason for a lot of fans to check it out. Even though the hero shooter genre is pretty crowded right now, I think Borderlands has such a unique identity that it could still stand out from the rest.

Do you think a Borderlands Hero Shooter could work?
