Question to Atheists: can not believing in God but being scared of evil spirits coexist?

I am agnostic... I'd be completely atheist if I wasn't surrounded by people who believe in god. I don't believe it but sometimes I have this weird feeling of what if some power kinda thing is there. I don't believe in religion that is fs. but despite all this, i can't figure out if evil spirits or ghosts can be something believable or not? Idk how to explain this but...I had this experience recently... My college is built over a cemetery which I didn't know before I graduated. I found out recently. But when I was there in the hostel, a couple of times I'd be woken up at 3 am with 3-4 dogs circling an area and barking at the centre as if someone is standing there but there isn't any body. I always got scared but then my brain would tell me, ki bhaii if you don't believe in god then how are you believing in this thing? Does this happen to you too? Or can both coexist?
