9800X3D temp Windows full Defender scan
Hi,
I have a Ryzen 9 9800X3D cooled by an ASUS ROG Strix LC III 360 AIO.
What confuses me is that in games my CPU package temperature is usually around 50-60°C, and even during gaming benchmarks such as 3DMark Time Spy or Steel Nomad it stays relatively cool.
However, yesterday I ran a full Windows Defender scan and noticed:
CPU temperature around 82°C
CPU Package around 93°C
CPU usage close to 100%
Duration about 12 minutes
Ambient temperature around 30°C
As soon as the scan finished, temperatures dropped back down immediately.
The PC is stable, no throttling observed, and I recently updated my BIOS and AMD chipset drivers. Since then I’ve had several stable gaming sessions and my benchmark scores are actually slightly higher than before.
Is it normal for a full Windows Defender scan to push a 9800X3D hotter than gaming benchmarks? Or does seeing 93°C package on a 360mm AIO suggest I should investigate the cooling setup further?
Thanks!
