Health insurance
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice regarding health insurance portability in India.
I’ve been holding a health insurance policy with Star Health since 2023. In 2025, I was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. I have been completely transparent about this diagnosis, and it is already noted in my insurer’s records.
Currently, I am in a stable condition—I am not undergoing any active treatment and am not on any medication for it. Given this situation, I have a few concerns:
Portability: Is it feasible to port my policy to another insurer given this diagnosis?
Acceptance: Are there insurance providers in India that might consider a case like mine, or is rejection or permanent exclusion for this condition almost certain?
Pre-existing conditions: Since I have already disclosed this to my current insurer, how does this affect the "continuity" of benefits if I manage to port to a new provider?
I would appreciate any insights or advice from anyone who has navigated a similar situation or has experience with insurance underwriting for genetic conditions.
Thank you!
