18 years in L&D, 6 years in ID. Made redundant last month. Really scared I'm not gonna find work in this new landscape...

Discussion

Last time I was made redundant was just before lockdowns hit in 2020. I accepted the fact that it was gonna be pretty tough to find work so I reskilled from training delivery to instructional design and after 9 months on the dole I found a good remote gig and worked my way up to senior ID.

I'm back here again and the job space is soooo different. I've made sure to upskill again and worked with Claude this time, but every listing seems to have hundreds of applicants, and most resumes are screened by AI before they even make it to a human.

I don't believe that AI is going to wipe out the instructional design space, but it will decimate it, and the market already feels brutally competitive. Anyone else experiencing similar angst?
