The Dust I Became

Just Sharing

They warned me:

do not leave a thing

you’ve held too long.

Dust will gather,

the gears will stiffen,

the heart of it will fade.

I didn’t understand

the weight of those words

until my ego took the lead.

I left it in the dark—

longer than I knew.

The dust grew heavy,

spiders claimed their corners,

and the rot began

to consume it from within.

When I finally reached out

to bring it back to life,

I found the decay

had crossed over.

Dust had settled

not only on it,

but on me.

I struck a match,

searching for warmth—

but I only fed the fire

that burned me instead.
