why did the game suddenly stop giving me morphine at all

literally 2 chapters ago i was still fucking around like shit was never serious and suddenly im bombared by the sudden difficulty rise, i encountered a roadblock because on chapter 5 i keep getting molested by the book guy because im low on health and theres no syringes anywhere
