Should I study music? What would you do?
So I want you to be completely honest with me. Try to take away whatever biases you have about which ever degree and speak to me from a more neutral standpoint.
I desperately want to study music.
Please keep in mind that I am a foreigner so finding jobs in the country i live in is very difficult for foreigners so by not studying accounting I would be letting this go.
Its not even about the amount of money I can earn but rather that I am earning anything at all. Its not guaranteed that I'll be able to get a job with a music degree (not because theres no jobs but rather cause foreigners aren't prioritised)
Im willing to take the risk since music means so much to me but I don't want to feel the mental manipulation that will come from my family if I study music. They will constantly belittle me and remind me how much they disapprove of my decision. And unfortunately theyre reasoning for disapproving is valid.
I thought about studying music for 1 year and then switching back to accounting but thats not even possible because of the training contract so I have no idea what to do.
Another option would be waiting until I finish my accounting degree and training contract but that will be in 7 years time. Finding time to practice my instrument will be almost impossible as time goes so my level of playing will probably decline over time. And theres nothing wrong with that but I'm not ready to let go. I only want to get better.
And of course my desire to study music is not just about playing my instrument. I am deeply interested in all aspects of music like theory, harmony, tech etc.
Not studying music is currently hurting me, I'm not sure how to explain it. And it will continue hurting unless I completely let anything related to music go or unless I choose to study it.
There are many objective reasons as to why I should study accounting, but in my heart I know it is the wrong decision.
What would you do?
