I compared 7 Panchang APIs from their documentation to map real feature coverage differences

While building a Hindu calendar / muhurat feature, I ran into a recurring issue: most Panchang APIs describe themselves as “complete,” but the actual feature coverage varies significantly depending on what you need.

To understand this better, I reviewed the public documentation of 7 Panchang/astrology API providers and created a feature comparison matrix.

This is strictly a documentation-based comparison - no runtime testing was performed. The goal is to map feature availability, not correctness or astronomical accuracy.

FEATURES EVALUATED

Core Panchang elements:

- Tithi

- Nakshatra

- Yoga

- Karana

- Sunrise / sunset / moonrise / moonset

Extended astrology calculations:

- Choghadiya

- Hora

- Chandra Bala / Tara Bala

- Disha Shool

- Panchak

- auspicious / inauspicious time windows

Electional / muhurat systems:

- dedicated muhurat finder (not just yoga listing)

Calendar systems:

- Amanta / Purnimanta systems

- Vikram / Shaka calendars

- regional calendars (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati)

Additional coverage:

- festival endpoints

- support for non-Hindu calendars (where available)

KEY FINDINGS

- Core Panchang calculations are widely supported across providers.

- Major differences appear in applied astrology features (Hora, Choghadiya, muhurat systems).

- Dedicated electional muhurat APIs are relatively rare.

- Regional calendar support is inconsistent, especially for South Indian formats.

IMPORTANT LIMITATION

This does not evaluate accuracy or real-world correctness.

It only reflects what is exposed in public API documentation.

If others have done similar comparisons or used multiple APIs together in production, I’d be curious how they handled gaps in regional calendars or muhurat calculations.
