What would you change about competitive Yu-Gi-Oh?
I'm curious to hear the community's thoughts on this.
Competitive Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't reward top players financially as much as other competitive games. In chess, poker, esports, and traditional sports, there are often ranking systems, leagues, larger prize pools, and season long storylines. Yu-Gi-Oh has incredible players and a passionate community, but it feels like there's still a lot of untapped potential.
I've been exploring ideas around independent tournaments, league systems, rankings, season standings, cash prizes, creator involvement, and ways to make events more entertaining for both players and spectators.
A few questions:
• How would you rank players in a game with as much variance as Yu-Gi-Oh?
• Would you prefer a points based system, Elo, or something completely different?
• What would make you travel to an independent tournament?
• Would you watch a league style format with player rankings, rivalries, interviews, and season finals?
• What do you think the biggest problems with the current competitive scene are?
I'm genuinely interested in hearing all perspectives, whether you're a casual player, regional level competitor, YCS regular, content creator, or just someone who follows the game.
