Next.js deployments feel more fragile than they should
I’ve been shipping production apps with Next.js for a while now, and one thing I keep running into is how “simple changes” sometimes feel disproportionately risky.
What surprised me is not the framework itself, but how often small adjustments can have unexpected side effects in production.
Things like:
-a minor change in server/client boundary affecting behavior elsewhere
-caching changes behaving differently than expected after deploy
-builds passing locally but behaving differently in production
-edge/runtime differences showing up late in the process
-debugging issues that aren’t clearly tied to application code
It often feels like the line between “app logic” and “framework behavior” is thinner than expected, and that makes debugging more time-consuming than I initially assumed.
I still think Next.js is powerful and useful, especially for full-stack React apps, but I didn’t expect deployment confidence to require this much awareness of internal behavior.
Curious if others running larger Next.js apps feel the same, or if this just improves with experience.
