Beware of Stivers Ford in Birmingham Alabama
When I came home to visit family for the holidays, I went to look at a white Spec 2 RTR Mustang on the showroom floor under a big bow. The sticker price was essentially 63k (not including registration fees and taxes) and I decided to take a look at it for myself.
RTR (Ready to Rock) is basically a chassis and body kit that the dealership themselves build. They get a bone stock GT and add the body kit to inflate the price. The problem for this car specifically is that it was equipped with the factory “GT Performance Package” prior to adding on the body kit. Why is this a problem? To put the math into perspective: Ford's factory Performance Package charges you for heavy-duty track springs, upgraded struts, and unique factory wheels. When Stivers installs the RTR Spec 2 kit, their techs completely remove those Ford parts and replace them with RTR lowering springs, RTR adjustable shocks, and RTR Tech 7 wheels. By keeping the factory Performance Package cost on the window sticker while stacking the full RTR markup on top, they are charging you full price for Ford parts that are likely sitting in a cardboard box in their parts department or already in the dumpster. They are forcing you to pay twice for one set of suspension and wheels. When I talked to one of the dealers he simply stated “he didn’t know that RTR was in house.”
This is also CRAZY when you see that they have a 90k RTR Spec 3 on the lot as I’m typing this out. The car is physically painted in RTR's legendary, ultra-rare, color-shifting "Mystichrome" paint—which costs a staggering $24,995 entirely by itself on RTR's official site! Yet Stivers' database has it lazily listed online as standard, completely free factory "Carbonized Gray Metallic." They can't even get the descriptions right on a ninety-thousand-dollar car.
This sucks because KBB does not take the RTR kit into consideration at all when it comes to the true value of the car. You are essentially losing roughly 40k in profit by getting this car. The dealership preys on the people in this area who aren’t educated with dealership markups while exploiting the wealthy who reside in this area.
P.S I have attached pictures of the window sticker for both the RTR Spec 3 and the F-450 that they have listed at 160k. Tell me what you think.
