Houseshare advice
I 25(F) live in a house share with 3 other boys. All have been okay thus far but I am running into problems with 2 of them. I initially moved into this house-share to save some money as I graduated with my masters in economics, and thought it would be a good idea to save for a house or at least an apartment until my saving are in a good place. I deal with a housemate that I feel takes advantage of my kindness. He moved in and had nothing to cook with etc, he just started using my things without asking, I gave it a pass initially because maybe he thought it was communal, I let him know that in fact they belong to me but he can use them as long as things are put in its place when done using and it doesn’t inconvenience me. For a little while things were fine but I find he does little things to inconvenience not only myself but my other housemates. He would often use my things and leave them in the sink for days or out in our balcony until he felt like moving them, as well as use my plates and cutlery and leave them in his room until he’s ready to return these. He also broke a plate set my father had brought me upon moving out and never replaced it. There have also been times where he has stolen my housemates food and when caught would claim “he thought it was his” (we all have our own shelves). Outside of being disregarding of our things, he seems kind of sloppy, not only leaving dishes (that don’t belong to him) for days a time, he has never helped with any cleaning, that goes for our communal space, disposing of bins, cleaning the bathroom. He never seems to clean up after himself and ultimately sees no need to either, further leaving myself or my other flatmates to sort out. (The list gets longer), due to a side profession he does this means he also has a string of men (I have never met) regularly come and go from the house, sometimes occupying our only bathroom, and u can imagine how as a girl how uncomfortable this can make me feel at times, I’m all for people doing what they like, just not at the expense of my convenience and comfort. I have spoken to him numerous times, never rude and if anything I have let him get a pass on many occasions, but I’m at my wits end. I don’t feel comfortable living in this house share any longer, as I feel like the only things that belong to me in a space that we share are being used and disrespected. He has now been here 6 months and still has not brought his own kitchen equipment. How do I go about telling him how I feel without rocking the boat too much?
