Have you ever been shocked to see evidence of you being present somewhere that you are SURE you were not?
I’d love to hear about other people’s experiences with this and their theories for how it happens. I was raised by my stepfather after my mom died, but for whatever reason I didn’t go to his second wedding. Maybe because we had a little friction over my “lifestyle” at the time. Anyway, I have clear memories of asking other family members what the wedding was like, and being happy for him because it sounded romantic.
Recently, at another family wedding, I asked my half-sister what the wedding was like. She derisively said something like, “Well, you were there—what do you think it was like?”
We had a little back and forth, I continued insisting there was no way I was there. She finally said, “I remember having an argument with you there—trust me, you were there.”
I asked my dad. He said he honestly couldn’t remember me being there. I asked him to check the photos. He sent me one of the whole family at the ceremony.
I was there.
