I just rewatched Prima Facie after two years of drama school. It’s actually a masterclass, what are performances that helped you as a growing artist ?
So I’ve been in drama school for a year and half and I remember watching Prima Facie before going. I remember thinking the performance was “amazing” but not actually pinpointing what made it so good but I’m on holiday and developing practices in order to be the best stage performer I can be and one of the assignments I gave myself was revisiting performances I enjoyed and breaking them down so I could further better myself. First on the list was Prima Facie and omg I wrote 2 whole pages on what she was doing from breath, intention, pace, movement etc and I finally understand what made her performance so amazing and electrifying. She deserved that Tony and it really invigorated my love for performance which had kind of been stifled because I felt like I was doing everything wrong and not having any real good reference point on what performances I would love to explore.
So my question to you all is : what are some performances that have stuck with you and you’ve analyzed what the performer was doing which made you feel inspired to be the best performer you can be?
Also what practices did you develop to build that actor muscle to stay ready, open and healthy ? It’d be really nice to read more actors’ processes when they don’t have an audition to learn.
