World Cup in nyc

Trying to avail myself of World Cup festivities in NYC. Doesn't seem really like a World Cup atmosphere in the city. I think one has to seek it out. Any suggestions? And specifically, how to get tickets for the Rockefeller Center fan zone? (Yes, I checked their website and it's not really clear).
