Do you think Scottish identity is actually suppressed in the UK ?

I am not a scot but I have been told that one of the main reasons why Scotland must be independent is because it's a sovereign nation that deserves the right of self determination. This argument does however imply that Scottish identity is somewhat repressed in the UK so I am curious if y'all think so .
