Bats in loft

Last night saw 2 bats hanging in attic. They look like long eared bats.

We bought our first house and got the keys 2 weeks ago. We had every survey possible as there were problems no bats seen at that point. It was used as a holiday home for an old lady and her extended and they never did any proper repairs. Over the last winter no one has been in it. We got straight to work clearing everything out as the whole house needs a complete renovation. Zero insulation, damp everywhere etc.

We've completely pulled out all the rubbish from the big attic last week and saw no bats then. Completely inspected to the roof for missing slates or entrance for leaks at that point.

What's the general outcome? Online on the bat protection website it seems to say we have to stop all work.

We really dont want to disturb bats. But we do need to at least weather proof the roof and insulate the attic.

We also had planned to convert the attic to a bed room as its a small 2 bed currently.
