Is it worth it to befriend people you have nothing in common with?

27m here. I’m really struggling trying to make friends. I haven’t had close friends since high school.

I was going to a Unitarian church for a while and while I sort of enjoyed it, I was consistently the youngest one there. The next youngest were people in their 30s/40s with young kids. I just didn’t feel like I could truly bond with anyone because they were in far different times of life than me.

It’s been a year since I stopped going. I’m thinking of going back and trying again to bond with some of the thirty something couples even though I’m genuinely not interested in them.
