Power BI Embedded - Force latest date on report open
I’m working on a Power BI Embedded report and I need the following behavior:
• When the report opens, automatically select the latest available date in a date slicer.
• After that, the user must be able to change the date manually.
• If a new date becomes available later, the next report opening should automatically switch to that new latest date.
Since native Power BI behavior doesn’t support this exactly, I developed a custom solution from scratch in TypeScript using the Power BI Embedded API.
The issue is that some implementations create side effects:
• Resetting other filters on the page.
• Reapplying the latest date when navigating between report pages.
• Conflicts with Power BI’s filter persistence/state management.
• Difficulty distinguishing a real report opening from page navigation.
I’ve already tested several approaches (custom filter logic, local storage, application storage service, filter comparison logic), but I’m still looking for a robust solution that only triggers on report opening and does not impact other filters or page navigation.
Has anyone implemented a similar behavior successfully in Power BI Embedded?
