Growing xenophobia in corporate America [from perspective of an international working at a tier1 BB]
I’m a graduate of a top15 MBA who successfully landed an IB position at a top tier BB, and have been working here for a few years now. We -as internationals- are already accustomed to racist/xenophobic remarks on the web (at an increasingly higher rate thanks to Elon’s tranformation of Twitter into a 4chan-style right wing echo chamber), but I notice an alarming deterioration of the treatment of internationals in the work environment too. They’re brushed aside in promotion decisions, staffing/exposure to deals, or even getting the credit they deserve for their own output/deliverables. I’m aware that this can wildly vary from group to group, and teams with international seniors tend to fare better, but I’m hearing similar complaints from a growing number of my friends working at top companies. These are not small pop and mom shops that can carry out racism/discrimination under the radar, but some of the largest corporations in the world.
That’s just an insider whistleblowing for the future international applicants. Beware of what you’re coming for. The current white collar stagnation in job market outcomes encouraged many racist right wingers to speak up more loudly everywhere in the society where they would be ridiculed for such radical views only a decade ago. A large share of Americans seriously believe H1Bs are stealing jobs from Americans, and many -especially younger generations disillusioned by the current job market- have been agreeing more and more with these biggots.
