OBS Recording Size difference based on game?

Question

I’ve never had this happen before, and I’ve only started noticing it recently. Does OBS recording file size vary depending on the type of game being captured?

Today I was streaming and recording Captured 2, and after almost 2 hours, the recording file had already reached around 110GB. My storage completely filled up, which caused the recording to stop.

What confuses me is that I’ve never had this issue before, even with more graphically demanding games. Normally, after around 4 hours of recording, the file size would only be about 80GB.

The first time I noticed this was while recording Fears to Fathom: Scratch Creek, where the recording output was around 150GB for just 1 hour. At that time, I was testing HEVC encoding, so I assumed the unusually large file size was caused by switching to that encoder. Because of that, I went back to NVENC H.264, but now I’m seeing the same issue again.

What’s causing this? And if CQP is producing these kinds of file sizes at 1440p recording, what recording settings or alternatives would you recommend for maintaining high quality while keeping file sizes more reasonable? I've always used CQP for recording before and never had this problem.

I’ve attached the OBS log file below for reference.
