"snarkers" are the most embarrassing communities ever
i just discovered that there's entire subreddits dedicated to criticism of celebrities, usually women.
first of all, i can't imagine being so bitter about a young woman's success that you need a "safe space" (aka an echo chamber) where it's literally against the rules to fact-check anything you say. these people accuse her of misogyny while simultaneously engaging in cyberbullying about her face, body, and voice. they're pathologically obsessed; if you look at some of their comment histories you'll find DOZENS of comments every day complaining about olivia or other women.
this post is a great example of how they grasp at straws out of desperation to see her fail: "And so the Daisy Chain Fields Shitshow begins..."
they asked AI to come up with critiques for them and it mashed up quotes to make them happy đ
Political Apathy Remarks: Rodrigo mentioned to Pitchfork that celebrity political activism is "not cool anymore" and that she simply wanted a "positive" and "joyful" space. Some critics argue that this deliberately sidesteps social issues in favor of a commercialized positive image, despite the festival's non-profit focus.
here's her actual quotes:
Rodrigo says sheâs felt confused and disillusioned the past few years by the âcruelty in the world,â and sees Daisy Chain Fields as her way of combating it. I suggest that the broad 2010s-era interest in equitable lineups has faded from view. âI agreeâitâs something that I think about often. In, like, 2020 or something, it was really popular and cool for celebrities to talk about politics, and itâs not anymore. Itâs not encouraged,â she says. âBut thatâs what the original Lilith Fair was aboutâthey wouldnât book two women on a bill, they wouldnât play two women back-to-back on the radio, which I think is still the case in country radioâyou should fact-check that, though.â
the "positive" and "joyful" part from the same Pitchfork article:
Net profits from ticket sales will go to a number of charities and nonprofits including the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, Planned Parenthood, and the National Womenâs Law Center. âAll of the artists who are doing it are making no profit,â she says. âI just feel like we need something really positive to do and see, and young girls need awesome role models who are supporting other women and who are engaging in something thatâs really joyful and musical and community-oriented.â
and a quote from BBC that completely refutes the idea that she isn't interested in activism:
"I definitely try to be careful with my words," she says, "but simultaneously, the women I looked up to when I was young were really outspoken, and that was one of the reasons I adored them. "I don't think my goal is to be liked by all," she continues. "And when you de-centre that as the primary motivation, I think everything becomes a lot more joyful."
the rest of it is the most trivial complaints you could possibly think of, blown up to seem bigger than they really are while ignoring that all the money is going to non-profits.
these people need help.
