Plying yarn from cone

Hi guys! I've thrifted lots of cones of pretty very very lace weight yarn. After making sure there are no moths, I wanted to hold 3 strands together and make a swatch. Unfortunately, this is still too thin to work on a 3mm needle :(

I wanted to try plying multiple strands together on my spinning wheel, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with this 😊
