Is Jax *currently* trans?
People talk about Jax as though they are currently, at the moment the series takes place, is trans. But, are they?
Let's imagine you have a child in front of you, and you can see the future of that child. 20 years from now, in 2046, that child turns out to be trans. Should you refer to the child now, in 2026, as trans? If the child is a boy right now, should you use masculine or feminine pronouns? What if the child dies before they transition, should they be referred to as masculine or feminine?
I argue a person's identity is what they are in the moment. Jax, the rabbit, abstracted before they got to fully decide to transition. Leeroy Mateo, as far as the text says, has not decided to transition. Thus, I posit that both Jax and Leeroy should, until such time as future in-universe content is made, be referred to using masculine pronouns.
