Matchmaking issues despite higher population?

Hey Everyone, not a complain post, but wondering if there were any bugs in the matchmaking.... or is the PvP player base still super low despite having 85K on steam (and probably more on console).

This week I played a few comp and trials games, a couple of times I only loaded in with one other person, and we get wiped. Played trials and the same thing happened.

Also I'd say control still feels sweaty, but it's probably because my skills dropped more. However the wins and losses still feel lopsided based on the final board stats. I've been on both teams, though i'm usually hovering at the bottom of the board nowadays lol.
