If you went independent, did you start from a new idea...Or from the thing you were already the "go-to" person for?

I'm thinking about starting a new business. I've worked at a small e-commerce company for the last few years. But with the anxiety from tariffs and rising costs, it's got me thinking and looking at other opportunities.

I'm torn on where to even start. Do I go totally from scratch with something new, or build around the thing I already have experience in?

For those of you who went out on your own — which way did you go? Did you start from a brand-new idea, or from the thing you were already the go-to person for?
