Thoughts on fluoride in toothpaste?

Ive been hearing mixed opinions about if fluoride is good in toothpaste or not.. some people tell me fluoride is good for your teeth and others tell me the exact opposite.. my dentist gave me fluoride for my teeth but im questioning if i should use it or not.

I feel as though my research can possibly be biased, so I thought to take this question over to the users of reddit.

So what are your thoughts on fluoride in toothpaste? Actually beneficial or a scam to ruin your health?
