Lightweight WoW gameplay recorder
Hey guys, for the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on a lightweight recording app to record my raids and M+ gameplay.
I’ve been testing it quite a bit in raids, with a couple of guildies and friends, and I think it’s now ready for more people to give it a go.
What it currently does:
- Checks for the
Wow.exeprocess - Checks for the latest combat log file in the configured directory
- Looks for a couple of combat log events to start/stop the recording
- Supports manual start/stop recording if necessary
The app in its current state is local-only. There are no outside requests or telemetry. Logs are collected locally and can be exported manually if you encounter bugs, so you can review whatever you are sending.
A couple of current limitations:
- It’s windows only, and support for linux/mac is not planned
- Windows will most likely show SmartScreen protection because the builds are unsigned
- I have tested it only on retail. It might work on other WoW versions by accident, but I did 0 tests on them
- Vote to abandon/exiting a Mythic+ run doesn’t emit a combat log event, so there is no proper way to stop the recording automatically. The two things you can do are enter another dungeon and it should stop by itself shortly after, or stop it manually. WoW flushes logs to the file on dungeon enter, but doesn’t seem to do it on exit
I would love to get some feedback and/or suggestions.
