First Negroni tonight — equal parts felt too Campari-heavy. What ratios do you actually use?

So I finally sat down and made my first proper Negroni tonight after months of reading about it. Went with the classic equal parts ratio, one ounce each of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, stirred over ice and strained into a rocks glass with an orange peel. Turned out pretty solid but the Campari felt a little dominant for my taste.

I've been reading that a lot of people tweak it to something like 1.5 oz gin to 0.75 oz each of Campari and vermouth to let the gin come through more. Others go 1.5 gin, 1 Campari, 0.75 vermouth.

Curious what ratios people here actually land on after experimenting. Do you stick to equal parts out of respect for the classic, or do you adjust based on your gin choice? I used a London Dry but I have a more botanical gin I want to try next time.

Also open to vermouth recommendations. I used Carpano Antica, which I know is a popular choice, but I'm wondering if a drier sweet vermouth would help balance out the bitterness a bit. Carpano is pretty rich and almost vanillaforward, so it might actually be pushing the sweetness in a direction that makes the Campari feel even more aggressive by contrast.

Appreciate any honest feedback from people who have actually dialed this drink in.
