What is an IETM and how does it relate to CBT?
An Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) is a digital, structured technical document that provides maintenance personnel and operators with interactive access to technical data, procedures, and system information. In an integrated development workflow, technical literature is first developed and validated, and then handed over to the IETM team, who use it to build the interactive manual. IETMs and CBT modules serve complementary but distinct purposes — CBT is used for training people on how to operate or maintain a system, while an IETM serves as the on-the-job reference tool during actual maintenance or operations. Together, they form a comprehensive digital training and support ecosystem for complex systems, particularly in defence and aerospace contexts.
