Interfaith Marriage
The title really says it.
I (non muslim M), have been dating a muslim woman for about 3 years. I am absolutely crazy about her. I cannot imagine, nor do I want to imagine, my life without her.
We would like to get married, but have struggled with the fact that our marriage would not be considered valid, and that my partner's faith would be in question.
I would like to know more broadly about how interfaith marriage is viewed within the Canadian-muslim community? Does my commitment to both respecting and participating in my partner's faith, and our intention to raise any children by her faith, change anything? What kind of social, religious, or personal consequences would my partner face if we got married anyways?
Conversion is an extremely difficult step for me. I do not feel a declaration of faith would be truthful on my part, and I struggle to adopt a label that indicates a belief system that I don't ascribe to.
Blessed day to you all
