[FOUND] Hokkyoku no Muushika Miishika (1979) / Miska & Muska - The "Mandela Effect" Polar Bear Anime Has Been Recovered!

Animation

• Explanation of the media, and the name:

北極のムーシカ ミーシカ / Hokkyoku no Muushika Miishika (released internationally as Adventures of the Polar Cubs and in Brazil as Miska & Muska) is a 1979 Japanese anime film produced by Mushi Production. The plot follows two polar bear cubs, Miska and Muska, who must protect the Arctic ecosystem and lead the animal kingdom after human poachers hunt and gravely injure their father.

• How it is lost:

The film completely vanished from commercial circulation decades ago. After the original studio faced financial issues, the physical master elements became untraceable. In Western countries and Latin America, the only official release was through extremely rare, limited-run VHS tapes distributed in the 1980s. Due to the absolute lack of digital footage, screenshots, or official streaming presence on the internet, it became a notorious piece of lost media.

• What research has already been done:

For years, users across global preservation forums (including Arabic, Italian, and Brazilian communities) debated its very existence. It was widely categorized as a "Mandela Effect" or "Existence Unconfirmed" media, with skeptics arguing that people were misremembering other shows or mixing it up with the famous Mickey Mouse catchphrase ("Miska Muska Mickey Mouse").

• A conclusion as to the current situation as of posting:

The search is officially over. A community member from a Brazilian preservation group managed to acquire an original physical VHS tape and performed a complete digital rip of the movie. I have mirrored and uploaded the recovered footage online so this piece of animation history is permanently preserved and safe from becoming lost media again.
