seeking solidarity and maybe advice for the 4 month sleep regression
hi everyone. really this is just a vent/documentation session for myself but happy to hear reassurance, stories and advice. my little one is four months old exactly this week and we have had a decline in sleep since around mid june. he would usually go to bed at 8 and transfer into his next to me super easily after holding him for 30 mins. he would then usually have a 4-6 hour stretch in there before we co sleep the rest of the night until wake up at 7am ish. well that first stretch went down to two hours from the 14th ish for and since sunday, is now basically as soon as his head hits the next to me, he wakes up. i used to be pretty rushed with his transfer and it was fine and now i’m going so slow to try and get him in for a bit. i would just co sleep immediately but i like to clean bottles and sterilise for the morning and get myself ready for bed which is about an hour process. plus its just time to myself for a bit. the heat wave in the uk means our safe co sleeping set up in my bedroom is infeasible as its 30+ degrees in there!! so not only the sleep regression, he is also hot and teething as well lol. and in the 4th developmental leap. so a lot going on. 4 months is rough!
all this to say i miss my couple hours and hope it comes back. we are still persevering with transferring him a few times, but he will immediately fall back to sleep after we pick him up again and is held so in end, i usually just hold him until its less than 28 degrees in our room then we just co sleep as normal. thankfully the heat wave is over soon then i can just get ready before his bed time and cosleep from the start to ride the regression through. another note though, he is also waking himself up kicking and tossing and turning every day between 4-5am, even with co sleeping when he didnt used to. but again, he will easily go back to sleep if i stand up and rock him and then hold him. such a strange time! this stage is not for the weak.
he is lovely in the day btw with contact naps he has 2 two hour naps and a cat nap for half an hour (2.5/2/2/2.5). his average sleep needs have always been around 14-14.5 hours. but even with shorter naps he usually doesnt sleep longer than 11 hours at night no matter what. :) hope every one is doing okay and surviving the heat in the uk
