Let's rule Gyuri out!!

I’ve been observing every contestant this season as neutrally as possible, and after watching up to Episode 11, I wanted to share something I’ve noticed.

The amount of hate directed toward Gyuri has honestly surprised me. What bothers me even more is that it sometimes feels like the panel has been unusually harsh toward her compared to the other contestants.

One moment that particularly stood out to me was when Gyuri told the girls she was going downstairs and WY followed her. The panel immediately suggested that she was indirectly asking him to come down, even though there was nothing in that scene that clearly indicated that. And this wasn't an isolated incident—there have been several moments where Gyuri simply exists in a scene, yet the panel interprets her actions negatively or assumes bad intentions.

At the same time, when other contestants do things that could also be viewed critically, the reactions are completely different. For example, when SY interrupted WY and YG during their movie time or tried to get attention with the dyed scarf, the panel found it cute, bold, and entertaining. They often cheer for everyone else, but I genuinely can't recall them giving Gyuri the same level of support.

What also gets overlooked is the situation Gyuri was actually in.

On the first day of the Japan trip, WY directly asked Gyuri to choose him the next day. That gave the impression that he was quite interested in her and wanted to continue exploring that connection. However, Gyuri lost the game and couldn't choose him, and after that, things seemed to shift. To me, it felt possible that this hurt WY's ego and contributed to him leaning more toward YG.

There were also several misunderstandings that likely affected Gyuri emotionally. She told WY she wanted to watch "Once We Were Us," but because he had already made plans, he ended up watching it with someone else. Gyuri didn't know the circumstances behind it, so from her perspective, seeing him watch the exact movie she had mentioned with another girl must have been painful. We later saw how emotional she became about it.

The same thing happened with "Decision to Leave." That was the movie she chose, yet WY ended up watching it with YG. Whether intentional or not, it's understandable why that would hurt her feelings.

Another thing people criticize Gyuri for is what happened during the Truth Game. But let's not forget that WY was the one who first wanted to ask her about her top choices. And honestly, I respected the fact that Gyuri didn't simply say his name when put on the spot.

The Truth Game was messy overall, but one question I still have is this: if WY had truly closed the door on Gyuri and was completely set on YG, why did he choose Gyuri at the end?

To me, WY's actions throughout the season have often sent mixed signals. He seemed very interested in Gyuri from the beginning while also knowing that YG already liked him. After Gyuri couldn't choose him on the second Japan date, she stopped sending him texts. Around the same time, YG also didn't text him. It felt as though he suddenly realized that the option he thought would always be there might not be guaranteed anymore.

What confuses me is that if WY was capable of clearly ending things with SY, why couldn't he do the same with Gyuri?

At the end of the day, nobody has to like Gyuri. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But I do think she has been villainized to an extreme degree. Sometimes it feels like people have become so determined to dislike her that even when she's simply laughing or smiling, those moments are interpreted negatively.

And honestly, that's what makes me uncomfortable. Not because people support different contestants, but because it feels like Gyuri is being judged by a completely different standard than everyone else.
