Hey fellow travelers,

If you have been tracking the news or planning a trip to Kashmir recently, you probably know that the **Gulmarg Gondola** has been entirely shut down since May 25th after a technical malfunction stranded over 300 tourists mid-air (everyone was evacuated safely by the SDRF and Army, thankfully!).

As of today, **June 25, 2026**, the Gondola has officially resumed commercial operations.

Here is a quick breakdown of what’s happening if you are heading up there this summer:

* **Why it was shut:** The J&K Cable Car Corporation spent the last month doing deep-system safety audits, component replacements, and extensive trial runs to ensure everything meets safety standards.
* **Timings:** It’s operating on standard hours again (typically 09:00 AM to 3:30 PM).
* **Phase 1 vs Phase 2:** Both stages (Kungdoor and Apharwat Peak) are cleared. However, expect heavier crowds than usual over the next few weeks as a month's worth of built-up tourist demand hits the stations.

**Crucial Advice for anyone going:** Do **NOT** show up expecting to buy a ticket at a physical counter. Ticket sales are strictly online-only through the official JKCCC portal. Book your slots days (or even weeks) in advance to avoid getting scammed by local touts.

Safe travels! If anyone visits in the next few days, please drop a comment below on how bad the wait times are.
